STITHIANS RES 29/07/2013

Just to ring the changes I thought I would post a few bird images for a change. These were taken at Stithians Reservoir at the end of last week, not much in the way of migrating  birds yet and the water levels are still very high, could do with them dropping and exposing some mud.
Anyway the Lapwing seems to have turned up early and was the only one there, The Greenshank was also a pleasant surprise.

MORE BACKLOG IMAGES 23/07/2013

A few more from the backlog of images over the last week or so, taken at various locations, including Gwithian, and Tehidy Country Park.
In another few weeks the Autumn migration should start to build so it will be good to get a few birds back on the blog, but its frightening how time flies.
Right gotta fly, just had a call from Brian there's a Two Barred Crossbill at Croft Pascoe on the Lizard and he is picking me up shortly. Mmmm when does this migration start?

Footnote
So its now early evening and having made the trip down to the Lizard this morning I feel that I owe everyone an update on the trip. Arrived at Croft Pascoe around 10.00am and parked then entered the track into the woods. About 2 metres  in it all started to happen, we were attacked by hordes of Horse flies that were determined to devour us. these tenacious great flies kept this up all the way around the plantation, and I only had on Tee Shirt and shorts, Brian fared little better even though he was wearing long trousers.
So after all most one circuit we met another birder Andy and he gave us the best gift I've ever had INSECT REPELLENT, which stopped the little blighters in their tracks. So now we gave it another go and did a second circuit, and you guessed it we didn't see a single Crossbill, and to cap it all that was the hardest Blood giving session I've ever done.

TEHIDY COUNTRY PARK & MOTH TRAP 20/07/2013

Paid a visit to Tehidy Country Park a couple of times this week, (nice and cool under the trees) not so many species as I would have expected but enough to keep me occupied. So the insect images are from there, and the Moths are from last nights trapping session.
Still have loads of images to go through, so will keep them coming as I get through them., must not moan but after and hour I gets really roasting here with the sun coming through the wide open window, at the moment I feel medium to well done so switching off and getting out of the oven.

BRINDLED PUG. Here I go again its a WILLOW BEAUTY, Thanks John

MOTHS 17/07/2103

So the moth trap went out again last night, and things were quite a lot better with around 27 moths, a number were species I have had before but I did manage three new ones which are the first three images below.
This fine spell of weather seems set for the next week so hopefully will be getting a few more new ones. Anyway I still have plenty of images to go through, so I still have plenty to share, and with this weather I will keep adding to it.

PS. Well I must admit I am rubbish at identifying Moths, a very good friend John Swann has informed me that the first one is a Dot Moth and the second image is a Plain Golden Y.
So these will be corrected, and what are the odds of me making the same mistake again 5/4 on I guess.
Many thanks John greatly appreciated .

MACRO BITS AND BOBS 14/07/2013

Really having some super weather at the moment, and the cameras have been going at a right old pace which means for once I have a real glut of images to go through.
So tonight I am just posting a few from the last couple of days, and I have not managed to get around to identifying them all yet so please excuse the lack of ID.
So whilst this beautiful weather continues I will keep snapping away, and tonight the moth trap is going out ,so wonder what that will bring.
The biggest thing I have noticed during this hot spell is the lack of bees and butterflies around, they are just about non existent in the garden,  I hope this does not mean they are declining any further.

GOLD RINGED DRAGONFLY.

Just a quick post hot off the press tonight, this afternoon I walked out into the back yard (I can't call it a garden as its all paved but has loads of pot plants ). I had to blink twice for on the paving was this beautiful Gold Ringed Dragonfly, so here we go oldie sprinting again to grab the camera gear thinking it would fly off at any moment.
But I need not have worried as it was very obliging and allowed me to take numerous photos starting from a distance and ending up lying on my stomach a few inches from it. Now I have seen these many times but have never had any decent images of one, so hopefully that is now addressed.
ENJOY !!

JR AND THE GREAT INSECT SAFARI.

Spent a great morning yesterday with John from JR AND SUES BLOG doing an Insect hunt and Macro shoot, we meet up at around 09.30 and headed west to one of his favorite places.
Well we spent around 2 1/2 hours and I ended up with well over a hundred images which will take me a while to sort through, I also had the Moth trap out and have these images to sort as well,so should get a few post on this week.
So for starters I have put up the images below and will get more on as I get through them.
So John many thanks, great to meet up with you again and looking forward to the next time, when we can go stomping into insect heaven.
Hey Sue hope you feel better soon.
