WHOOPER SWAN HELSTON BOATING LAKE 01/08/2013

Had A call from Brian yesterday afternoon to get out for a couple of hours birding, so off we went down to Hayle Estuary but there was very little to see.
We then decided to go to Helston as a juvenile Whooper Swan has been in residence for quite some time, so off we went around the boating lake being stared at by all the tourists wondering what these two blokes were doing with binoculars and big cameras.
Still we found the swan on one of the islands which has no access, but it was still to close for the 400mm to get it all in the frame.
I managed to get quite a few decent  close up shots which are posted below.
On the way back home we called in at Stithians Res and managed a quick though distant view of the Wood Sandpiper that has been there for a few days.
So all in all it turned out to be a reasonable afternoon.
