BOTTALLACK
The old Bottallack Mine (Bostalek) in the Cornish language lies between St Just & Pendeen in West Cornwall There are extensive mine workings in this area, but the most important are the two Engine Houses sited under the cliffs. These were in production in the 1800's and early 1900's. Known as Crown Mines the levels of these ran for about 400m out under the Atlantic Ocean. The deepest shaft was 250 Fathoms (150m ) below sea level. The working conditions in these mines was extremely difficult and injuries were a regular part of the daily toil.
The Images below were taken early this morning, hence the warm tones to them. The final two shots are of one of the clifftop processing plants , the other looking towards Lands End shows the remoteness of the area.
I always feel I am stepping back in time at Bottallack. The Old Mines always shout out to be photographed.
